Pumping iron. It makes muscles larger. It also tears them apart. Thanks to the damage we are self-inflicting on ourselves, to accomplish our desired outcome – getting ripped – we need to allow ourselves that rest day.
It turns out that the bones need the rest day, too. A study, involving fifteen female Olympic class rowers was conducted in Canada. Those who worked out hard with fewer rest days had more protein build up, as well as the proteins that help bone regrowth. Ironically, working out with high-impact weights is good for your bones, if you give yourself a rest day.
