dairy productsWhat is a dairy sensitivity?

Dairy sensitivity is not the same as an allergy from dairy, nor is it any kind of lactose intolerance. However, all of these have some common symptoms, which may lead to confusion. Lactose is a type of sugar, which is found in dairy products, and for a person to be allergic or intolerant, it would require an insufficient amount of lactase enzymes to reduce it. On the other hand, dairy sensitivity is often a gastric allergy from dairy products.

What Causes This Sensitivity?

The two major causes for dairy sensitivity are casein and lactose. Casein is a milk-based protein, which is found in most of the dairy products. It is used in a wide variety of products like paints, etc. and can be found in food items like potato chips. While lactose is a sugar, which is found in milk products and can be a major cause for the dairy sensitivity. These are the natural products and there are very rare changes that a person develops an allergy from either of them.

Symptoms

There are a few distinctive symptoms, which can be seen in a person suffering from dairy sensitivity or dairy allergies. These include nausea, cramping, stomach pain, diarrhea and flatulence. These all symptoms can be seen after you consume any of the dairy products. Other serious symptoms may include acne, vomiting, weakness, skin disorders, asthma and headaches. Dairy sensitivity can also be described in terms of irritation caused by any milk products such as chocolates, cheese, starch etc. You can also check for allergies by conducting various tests like eliminating certain food items from the diet or repeating a certain cycle of food items to check for any irritation or discomfort. Sometimes people have multiple allergies from eggs, gluten and milk products. In these cases it is important to repeat the diet elimination plan for a couple of weeks to find the right cause of your allergy.

Treatment

The major treatment for dairy sensitivity comes in form of enzymes that help to break down the sugar and regulate the sugar flow of blood. It is also highly important to make up for the calcium loss due to restricted dairy consumption. This can be done by consuming a lot of fruits and vegetables, which are rich in calcium, but contain very little amount of allergy causing sugar. A regulated amount of enzymes can be artificially induced into your blood stream, to regulate the allergy causing agents. Also, the person should avoid any kind of milk products or food items which are a source of gluten. Before the beginning of any treatment, it is highly important to discover the major causes of the sensitivity and allergies. The right treatment requires the right diagnosis at the right time.

Therefore, it is important to follow the right diet, eliminating plan and a great amount of care should be taken which substituting the allergy agents. After all, you know your body better than they know anyone else and nothing feels better than being healthy and fit.
