Fight Off The Flu This Winter With Garlic

The common flu or influenza is a contagious disease which is caused by an influenza virus. The symptoms of this illness are high fever accompanied by coughs, colds, and sore throat. Muscle pains are also associated with the flu. Although there is a yearly outbreak, a healthy person who gets infected by the flu may not require medical treatment. There are a lot of homemade remedies that can be used to counter the symptoms of the flu. The best home remedy for it, however, is garlic.

Here’s how you can use raw garlic to prevent or get rid of the flu

Garlic has been used to treat medical illnesses throughout history. It has been found out through numerous researches that it contains ingredients that are both anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory. The million and allicin compounds found abundantly in garlic also have antiviral and antibacterial properties. This is why adding raw garlic into your regular diet will help prevent you from getting infected with the flu.

If you think that you have the flu, you can relieve yourself of the flu symptoms by ingesting it immediately after you noticed them. Its antibacterial and antiviral properties will eliminate the virus or germs that went into your body. The anti-inflammatory properties of garlic, on the other hand, will relieve you of fever and body aches. Ingesting raw garlic will also reduce the amount of time that you will experience flu symptoms and therefore will get rid of flu in a shorter period.

Raw garlic should be used when treating flu since it would still retain all its nutrients and chemical ingredients within it. Studies have revealed that chewing a clove of raw garlic at least three times a day will help you get rid of flu symptoms. If you cannot take in the taste of garlic, you can crush a clove and then swallow it whole with water. You can also mix it with honey to soften its taste.

Garlic is said to have blood-thinning properties. Therefore, if you are taking blood-thinning medications, you should not use garlic to treat your flu.

You can get rid of the symptoms of the flu with garlic only if you are a healthy person. However, if you are pregnant or are above 60 years of age, you should consult a doctor when you get infected by the flu.
