As it turns out, all those times that your parents told you to eat carrots because they’re good for your eyes were absolutely right. A new study found that carotenoids, a pigment that is plentiful in carrots, as well as bell peppers, spinach and kale, can stave off macular degeneration. Carrots are also an excellent source of vitamin E, which can help prevent the development of cataracts.
