It seems quite incredible that small amounts of minerals, equivalent to traces, can provide many benefits when it comes to our health. Yet, research confirms the theory. Take selenium as an example. It can significantly influence the immune system strength which will impact our overall health. For the benefit of selenium to be felt, we only need a small amount of this mineral. Increasing the selenium intake is also shown to slow down aging and inhibits inflammation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Low levels of selenium are paired with risk increase for all causes of death even when controlled.
  • Selenium is very good for your health as it is an antioxidant that can help improve chronic inflammation.
  • Selenium deficiencies have been linked to cancer, arthritis, depression and male infertility. In women that are pregnant, low selenium levels could lead to infants with developmental problems.

“The study in question was a prospective cohort study involving nearly 350 men and women aged 80 and older living in a small community in Italy.”
