Naturally boost brain power

August 27, 2018 By Darrell Miller

With degenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia currently on the rise, there looms above us an ever-present warning to keep our brains in tip-top shape. Keeping a healthy and strong brain as long as possible is the key to living a happy, healthy, and well functioning life. A brain that works at its optimal level enables us to work through problems faster, recall memories faster and more vividly, helps us learn new things quicker and lets us be more creative and energized. All of this, in turn, leads to us being happier individuals because we’re more mentally equipped to do the things we want to do and accomplish.

Proper nutrition is the first, maybe the most important step in achieving a healthy brain, followed by a positive attitude, and a healthy, active lifestyle. However, getting all the nutrients your brain needs can be difficult in today’s busy world. Brainpower supplements are the solution to this dilemma. We’re going to look at six different supplements that have the stuff your brain is craving.

1. Omega-3:
Long-chain Omega-3 essential fatty acids are made up of polyunsaturated fats, which are the good types of fat that your brain requires for health, hence the “essential fatty acids”. Most of us, an estimated 70% of Americans, have a deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acids in our diets. Among their numerous protective health effects on the body, Omega 3’s have been shown in studies to exhibit a wide range of neuroprotective qualities. These include helping with mood, memory, and other brain health issues. They are found in high concentrations within the brain and nervous system. Here, they work to build healthy cell membranes, reduce inflammation, promote the formation of new cells, form crucial brain chemicals, and improve nerve communication. This lowers your risk for depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and all other neurodegenerative diseases and neurological disorders.

2. Ginkgo Biloba:
Ginkgo Biloba is the oldest known tree species alive today. Although over 140 compounds have been found in Ginkgo Biloba, only two of those compounds have been proven to boast brain health benefits. These include increasing blood flow to the brain, increasing the chemicals known as neurotransmitters, which brain cells need to communicate with one another, improvements in the energy of brain cells, a decrease in blood viscosity, elimination of free radicals that harm brain cells, and protection from any aluminum accumulation in the brain, which has been connected to neurological disorders and diseases like Alzheimer’s.

3. PQQ:
PQQ (Pyrroloquinoline Quinone) is a vitamin that has been shown in over 175 studies to have amazing health benefits for the brain, including memory improvement, enhanced cognition, mood, and overall brain power. It is used as a dietary supplement for its beneficial effects on mitochondria and the brain. PQQ enhances nerve growth up to 40 times. This allows for neuron formation and maintenance, and the restoration of damaged neurons. On top of this, this supplement can improve direct attention and enhance your short-term memory. Also, its positive effects on sleep quality and duration may be one of the reasons it has been connected to enhancements in learning abilities.

4. Huperzine A:
Huperzine A, also known as the Hup-A supplement, is an alkaloid compound that is found in a species of moss native to India. Huperzine A works by increasing the amounts of acetylcholine in our brains. Acetylcholine is a chemical, also known as a “learning neurotransmitter” that our nerves utilize in order to communicate in our brain and body. This is why Hup-A leads to better memory, concentration, and overall better brain functioning. To summarize some of its amazing benefits, it helps with epileptic seizures, protects the brain from Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, helps with brain damage from severe bacterial infections, can help treat depression, protects neurons against glutamate toxicity, and more.

5. Phosphatidylserine:
Phosphatidylserine is a fatty acid phospholipid. Its role in the brain involves covering and protecting the cells and delivering messages between them. It is one of the key components in keeping a healthy brain, as it helps you keep a strong memory cognition. Studies of animals have shown that it may decrease as we age, which is the reasoning behind people taking it as a supplement. People who take the it have been studied. These people scored higher on mood, memory, and concentration tests. In addition, scientists have been experimenting with treating symptoms of Alzheimer’s with Phosphatidylserine. There does need to be more studies in order to gain conclusive results.
