The Benefits of Propolis to the Immune System

October 18, 2015 By Corey B

Our health is largely sustained by the body’s immune system. A strong immune system helps protect against infections and diseases. The immune system plays a very important role in lengthening our lifetime. While it may be easy to take the immune system for granted because it is good at what it does, it is our responsibility to do all in our ability to ensure its well-being so that it can efficiently take care of us.

As we continue to age, getting towards thirties and beyond, the immune system starts to weaken, it makes us more susceptible to illnesses. Many of these diseases can take advantage of a weak immune system to develop to greater extents that can actually be life threatening.

The process of immune system deterioration can be slowed down using natural combatants found in Propolis. It contains active substances known as flavonoids that works to promote cell regeneration. Its cell building compounds is able to support the immune system and slow down cell degeneration.

There are a number of different grades of Bee Propolis, which makes it important to ensure that the source of your Propolis is well researched. For Propolis to be medically useful, there needs to exist an active enzyme activity together with active nutritional minerals and vitamins. Some products may be nutritionally dead and therefore not as good as needed for boosting the immune system, but can deliver some benefits when directly applied to the skin. The collected substances should maintain a certain level of flavonoids in its original form in order to be beneficial.

The general understanding of how Propolis works is that it uses the component flavonoids to stop the release of a substance called histamine. Doing this helps to create some efficacy in the body system by preventing the start of many illnesses.

Bees use propolis around their own hives. They collect these from several trees such as poplar, willow, birch and pines. Looking further into the trees, it gets interesting when you realize that the latex plays a very important role in protecting the trees from different forms of contamination. This shows how much truth there is to the idea that the latex has good antibiotic characteristics. It actually protects the trees from bacterial and viral infections. The bees go ahead to search for the sap so that it can make use of it in building their homes. The bees too tap into the anti-biotic, anti-fungal characteristics of the secretion.

A study was conducted by the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, the study reveals that Propolis has benefits to treatment of canker sores. This is a disease whose treatment and prevention has been a big problem for experts in modern medicine over time. The study which involved two groups of patients, one taking Propolis and another taking placebo shows that those who took Propolis had significant reduction in number of outbreaks. The same group also felt generally much better after taking Propolis.

In a general sense, it is accurate to say that propolis contains various natural ingredients that provide great aids to a healthy immune system. Several other studies have been conducted on the medical impacts of Propolis and they have revealed that Propolis is extremely efficient in improving a person’s immune system.
