Although vitamin C has long been believed to have strong antioxidant properties new research has found an inverse relationship between vitamin C intake and cardiovascular mortality. The new study adjusted for fiber ingestion to find these results. Previously researchers were unable to separate these two areas to ascertain if the vitamin C itself was the cause of lowered mortality. Vitamin C is found in many popular fruits and vegetables including mangoes, kiwi, strawberries, pineapples, peppers and other citrus fruits.
Key Takeaways:
- Vitamin c can be a major player in heart health and regular intake can reduce heart problem risk
- Contrary to most belief vitamin c is the best of all the superfoods for you and very possibly the easiest of all of them to consume on a daily basis
- Vitamin c passes through your system quickly so you need to make sure you have a regular intake.
“The verdict: Vitamin C sharply reduces cardiovascular mortality due to cardiovascular causes.”
