Why pecans should be your go-to snack when you’re hungry

There’s a few compelling reasons why pecans make an ideal healthy snack. Pecans pack an impressive amount of antioxidants, even more so than almonds and walnuts, which include several vitamins and minerals such as vitamins A and E, calcium, and zinc. Their zinc content helps prevent illnesses by keeping the immune system strong. Pecans contain the good fats known as monounsaturated fats which means they can be part of a heart healthy diet. Pecans are also low in sugar and can be found without added salt. Although they’re often mistaken for nuts, pecans are technically part of the fruit family.

Key Takeaways:

  • Of all the different kinds of nuts, pecans contain the most antioxidants.
  • The beta-carotene and vitamin E in pecans fight chronic inflammation and promote good cardiovascular health.
  • The protective antioxidants in pecans keep the brain healthy and prevent the oxidative stress that has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

“Contrary to what most people believe, finding a snack that sates your hunger while being good for your body isn’t hard at all.”
