7 ways to boost your energy levels this winter

November 17, 2017 By Darrell Miller

As winter rolls in it is hard to maintain high energy levels. Nutritionist, Helen Bond, recommends seven steps to staying motivated as the temperature drops. The first step is to make sure to eat healthy meals and snacks regularly. Second step is to balance your plate to ensure a good combination of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats. Third step is to eat a healthy breakfast every morning. Fourth step is to cut back on caffeine. Fifth step is to cut out alcohol. Sixth step is to stay hydrated. Seventh step is to stay active. By following these seven easy steps one can enjoy winter with a bounce in their step.

Key Takeaways:

  • According to nutritionist Helen Bond, there are several ways other than consuming caffeine to boost your energy levels during the winter months.
  • Sticking to a balanced diet consisting of whole grains, healthy fats, and proteins will prevent blood sugar spikes and drops in energy and alertness.
  • Cutting back on caffeine and taking a break from alcohol can prevent dehydration and improve your quality of sleep, which will positively affect your energy levels.

“While coffee and tea have their place as a natural stimulant – there’s evidence that they can assist mental and physical performance – if you are feeling wired yet tired, these drinks may be having a negative effect on your energy levels.”
