Holy basil, also known as Tulsi is used worldwide for its anti-stressing properties. There are various other health benefits of this herb as well. It acts as nerve tonic, boosts the immunity, helps to fight against cold and also enhances the memory. We all know that stress can result in various other health problems like depression and anxiety too. In fact, stress also affects the digestion of a person. This post revolves around the importance of Holy basil and its effectiveness against stress.

Tulsi is a sacred herb in India and various researches have been done by scientists to determine the reasons behind medical benefits of this herb. Holy basil has high amount of antioxidants and is thus effective against stress. It is well known fact that stress disturbs the functioning of adrenal gland. Researchers have proved that tulsi is capable of maintaining the proper functioning of adrenal gland. Thus by taking Tulsi products, one can prevent ill effect of stress on the adrenal gland.

The exact mechanism here revolves around the regulation of cortisol. Holy basil has been declared as an adaptogen by the scientists. An adaptogen refers to a substance that keeps the body in normal condition. It is very effective in fighting against fever and cold. The herb also has antiviral properties which provide complete protection to the body. 

Immunity and blood sugar

Moreover, consuming tulsi regularly also increases the body immunity. It helps to reduce the body sugar as well and is recommended for diabetic individuals.
Holy basil is generally used after boiling the leaves with water for few minutes. This herbal tea has a unique property; it is completely free from caffeine.

Tulsi tea is gaining more popularity in western countries. As a result, various manufacturers now provide dried Tulsi leaves in packets, tea bags, and capsules or tablets. One precaution required with this herb is to avoid its use before surgery as it acts as blood thinner.
