How Cinnamon Lowers Cholesterol

March 17, 2016 By Corey B

Most people use spices to season their delicacies while being oblivious to the health benefits that these spices offer. Cinnamon is one of the common spices in most people’s kitchens. While sprinkling on food, it will not only season your food to your liking, but it can also help in reducing cholesterol in the body. So, how does cinnamon get rid of excess cholesterol in the body?

One of the common behaviors that health professionals warn against is the excessive use of sodium salts due to their ability to worsen the cholesterol levels in the blood. Individuals with cholesterol problems may opt to become averse to salts. Cinnamon is an effective seasoning just like salt. It aids eliminate the risk of increased cholesterol, and consistent use reduces it.

Cinnamon contains Proanthocyanidin; a water soluble component that penetrates into the cell membrane and activates the receptor cells that produce insulin. Upon activation, various chemical reactions take place in the body and the conversion of sugars is accelerated. Insulin is very effective in the psychological regulation of Lipoprotein that is instrumental in cholesterol metabolism. During the peripheral circulation of Proanthocyanidin in the cells, the catabolism of Triglyceride takes place. It leads to the burning of cholesterol deposited in the blood vessels.

Cinnamon is rich in calcium and manganese. The two elements when combined with fiber found in food stimulate the secretion of bile salts from the gall bladder. During normal digestion, the presence of food in the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine stimulates the secretion of bile. The presence of calcium and manganese in food leads the production of more bile than when food devoid of these two elements reaches the duodenum. Upon trickling from the bile duct, bile breaks down the fat contained in food and the process lowers the amount of fats that could be deposited in the blood vessels.

The other way in which that cinnamon reduces the level of cholesterol is by increasing body metabolism and heat. A natural way of reducing cholesterol in the body is exercising. Any vigorous activity increases the body’s metabolism, and the process leads to the burning of fats. Cinnamon activates the cell and the muscles. The body heat experienced after the intake of cinnamon is evidence of the intensified metabolism in the body.

However, there has not been sufficient research on other ways that cinnamon reduces cholesterol in the body. However, these have been proven through empirical research using samples from various backgrounds. While researchers need to intensify their research to clear the gray areas. Dieticians propose that small amounts of calories in the diet are effective in reducing calories in the body. However, high intakes may lead to skin inflammations.

While you might consider getting rid of the excess cholesterol in your body through strict dietary controls and exercising, think about the pack of cinnamon in your kitchen that can be very effective in serving the same purpose. It is not all about seasoning while using cinnamon; it is also about reducing cholesterol.
