Are you struggling with acid reflux or indigestion? These relatively common digestion disorders can cause a lot of pain and discomfort, and may occur in both children and adults. Fortunately, apple cedar vinegar (ACV) has been shown to be effective at improving symptoms and even preventing future occurrence. It is a natural remedy that you can prepare and use at home.
What is acid reflux & indigestion?
Acid reflux, also known as heartburn, occurs when stomach acid finds its way up into the esophagus ─ tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach─ and causes a burning sensation either in the chest or throat. Indigestion, on the other hand, is pain/discomfort in the stomach resulting from difficulty in breaking down of food. This may happen when you eat too much or some foods just don’t agree with you.
How does apple cedar vinegar treat acid reflux?
This natural remedy is believed to work to stop heartburn in various ways. First, the acetic acid in it lowers the stomach acidity (or increases its pH) as it is a much weaker acid than the hydrochloric acid found in the stomach. Second, acetic acid together with its acetate salt help buffer and regulate stomach acid to a pH level of 3.0 or so. In such a milder acidic environment, your stomach can efficiently break down food but there are fewer problems with the esophagus and in turn less heartburn. Take raw apple cider vinegar in a glass of water to prevent and stop acid reflux.

Although it is acidic in nature, ACV has some alkalizing effect that may help settle indigestion and provide relief from the various symptoms. It is typically used to kick-start a slow stomach. Simply add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey to a large glass of water and stir. Drink the mixture about 30 minutes before your meals.
