A child may suffer from a number of different allergies in his or her early days. These are often triggered by a wide variety of things such as pet fur, tree pollen, cigarette smoke, etc. Each of these produces a set of separate symptoms and it is important to follow these symptoms in order to understand the nature of the allergy. However, there are certain allergies which display similar symptoms and hence it often gets difficult to understand their actual cause. While it is absolutely possible for any child to develop allergies, these are mostly found in children belonging to families who have a past history of such diseases.
Common Allergy Symptoms for Children
- Asthma (Breathing difficulty)
- Hives or rashes in skin (eczema or atopic dermatitis)
- Stomach problems
- Common cold (coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, etc)
Types of Diseases Caused by Allergies
- Hay Fever (Allergic Rhinitis)
Hay fever is probably the most common illness found in children that occurs due to allergies. The symptoms of this type of allergy include sneezing, an itchy nose, nasal congestion, postnasal drip, etc. A child suffering from this allergy may also display watery, itchy, reddish eyes along with constant ear problems. Although this disease is known as “hay fever,” it is not actually caused by hay and neither does it cause fever.
- Ear Infection
Allergies may often cause inflammation in a child’s ears and may even lead to accumulation of fluids that can cause infections in the ears and also impair one’s hearing abilities. If a child’s hearing ability is affected somehow while he is learning to talk, then there is a high chance he may develop poor speech. Allergies often lead to ear itching, ear-aches, popping, etc. If these symptoms are visible in a child, then an allergist should be consulted immediately for possible treatment.
- Nasal Congestion
Nasal congestion (nose blockage) is one of the most common illness caused in children due to allergies. Often a child’s nose is so congested that he/she is forced to breathe through the mouth, especially while sleeping. This may hamper the child’s sleep and cause fatigue the next day. If this sickness is not treated immediately, it can affect the development of bones and teeth. Early treatment can prevent these problems.
Possible Remedies
The best and safest cure for the above allergies in children is chewable QBC (Quercetin, Bromelain, Vitamin C). These nutrients are extremely effective for curbing a large number of symptoms of allergic rhinitis in children. Quercetin decreases the discharge of histamine i.e the substance which causes allergies. Bromelain is the common name for a set of proteolytic enzymes which are derived from pineapple stems. Vitamin C is known as a natural antihistamine. It curbs the release of histamine as well as increases the detoxification of histamine
Early identification of allergies will help in improving a child’s quality of life, prevent him or her from falling sick frequently and missing school and also boost his energy to a great extent.
