Vitamin K is a group of compounds, and two essential compounds are vitamin K1 and Vitamin K2. One can get required amounts of vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 from vegetables, leafy greens, eggs, meats, and cheese.

But if you are having antibiotics, drugs, and pro-biotics products then there is a possibility that you might have the deficiency of this Vitamin as some drugs and antibiotics reduce the production and absorption of Vitamin K. Antibiotics and drugs kill the bacteria in the intestine that creates this vitamin. Moreover, you can experience a sluggish mental state and obesity by the use of the antibiotics and in the absence of sufficient amount of vitamin K.

Though it is rare to experience vitamin K deficiency, but if you can are experiencing the following symptoms then consider it as the deficiency of Vitamin K.

  • Oozing from gums or nose
  • Unusual bleeding, blood clotting, heavy menstrual bleeding, bleeding within the digestive tract or hemorrhaging
  • Easily bleed or bruise
  • Cartilage calcification
  • Brain bleeding in newborn
  • Excessive bleeding from wounds, surgical or puncture sites
  • Increased prothrombin time
  • Blood in urine or stool

If you are experiencing all the above symptoms you might be lacking sufficient amount of Vitamin K. In that case, you can have leafy fruits and other products that are rich in vitamin K. You can also take vitamin K supplement to deal with this complication. This vitamin is essential for the proper functioning of different parts of the body. It helps in digestion and also considered helpful for having a healthy heart.

Newborns do not have the bacteria in the intestine that can create Vitamin K. Hence, in many developed countries, parents consider injecting this vitamin in their babies to prevent any unusual bleeding. This vitamin is also helpful for morning sickness, cancer, and for the removal of the spider veins.

Anyone can experience vitamin K deficiency that might be a newborn baby, adult, and in older age. If you are alcoholic or taking too many medicines and drugs then the possibility is high. In these conditions, you need either vitamin K rich foods or this vitamin supplements to deal with the deficiency.
