A joint Iranian-Australian research team recently published a double-blind study in which they recruited 48 obese or overweight persons and have half of them a daily dose of pomegranate extract in order to measure impact on serum metabolic indicators and biomarkers associated with inflammation and oxidative stress. The team found that after 30 days the group that got the pomegranate extract had lower measures of blood sugar and bad cholesterol and higher good cholesterol levels, suggesting that pomegranate extract could be beneficial for metabolic health.
