White willow bark is rich in many beneficial compounds that have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antioxidant and immunity-boosting effects. The main active compound in white willow is salicin. Salicin has an analgesic effect (painkiller just like aspirin).

Once ingested, salicin is converted into salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is similar to aspirin and will ease pain within a short time.

What white willow can treat?

To be frank, white willow has been used for centuries to reduce fever and relieve inflammations. It has been popularly used in China and Europe to treat conditions such as.

Low back pain

Joint pain

Headaches

Osteoarthritis

Inflammatory conditions including bursitis and Tendonitis.

In addition, it is effective to treat other conditions such as colds and the flu, by strengthening the immune system and by fighting bacteria.

Formulation of white willow

White willow is available in different forms such as capsule, dried form that can be added in tea or coffee, tincture (a liquid extract with alcohol) or in liquid form.

Dosage in using white willow

When used in tincture form, 4 to 6 millimeters should be used with a glass of water thrice a day.

In dried form, 1 to 2 teaspoonful should be added in 8 ounces of water and boil. For optimal results, drink 3 cups a day.

It should not be used for period exceeding 12 weeks.

Best candidates

White willow can be used by anybody with pain, but should not be used by pregnant or breasting feeding mothers, it should not be used by children or a person who is sensitive to aspirins or under serious medications.
