Drugs You Should Avoid If You Want Strong Bones!

January 23, 2016 By Corey B

Vitamin K is an important fat-soluble vitamin that plays a significant role in blood clotting. Excessive vitamin K might be the reason of some health complications. Similarly, the deficiency of this vitamin can create weak bones and heart diseases. This vitamin is considered important for many reasons. Doctors suggest this vitamin to prevent heart diseases, to build strong bones, and some other important body activities and developments. Normally, we do not give much importance on this vitamin and ignore its efficiency. As the result, we cannot get its benefits.

Why is Vitamin K important?

Many research reports reveal that this vitamin is one of the important adjuncts to vitamin D. If you have a deficiency in one of them, then you will not get the benefits of both. As mentioned earlier, vitamin K plays an important role for the overall development of body and vitamin D is considered beneficial for body growth. If you want to get the benefits of both, then you will have to follow a diet that has vitamin K and vitamin D.

According to the Dr, Cees Vermeer, one of the world’s popular vitamin K researchers, we ignore both the vitamin K and vitamin D in our diet. Many of us get the required level of this vitamin from our diet that helps to maintain the blood clotting but that is not enough for the overall development of the body and to fight against some other health problems. The deficiency of this vitamin can be the reason of brain health problems, tooth decay, and pneumonia. Hence, make sure that you have enough of this vitamin to avoid such condition.

Is this essential for bone building?

This vitamin has many health benefits and strong bones is one of them. Your bones are built for a lifetime, but if you will not take proper care then some drugs, hormone changes, and some other factors can make the bones weak.

Bones are made during your childhood period, but it keeps growing throughout the life. So, you need to take the proper care of the bones and follow some healthy diet to make it strong and healthy such as vitamin K, protein, calcium, and phosphorous.

How can drugs affect the growth of the bones?

As we know that Vitamin K has an important role in the building of strong bones. There are drugs such as antibiotics, cholesterol-lowering drugs, aspirin and blood thinners that hurt this vitamin’s production and absorption. Antibiotics damages the intestinal bacteria and that ultimately reduces the production of this vitamin. Cholesterol-lowering medications are also known for affecting the creation and absorption of this vitamin. Aspirin has many side effects. It can modify the efficiency of arthritis medications, diuretics, and steroids. If you take aspirin with the diabetic medications it can drop your sugar levels significantly. It can affect your bones if you take it with the combination of blood thinner.

To get strong and healthy bones, you need to avoid all the above drugs that reduce the production and absorption of vitamin K.
