Lutein and Zeaxanthin Supplements Are the Only Way to Protect Your Eyes

September 22, 2016 By Corey B

Lutein and zeaxanthin supplements have recently come to light as the strongest protection we can have against macular degeneration and cataracts. They are both potent antioxidant substances that stop free radicals roaming about the eyes and prevents oxidative stress from the blue light rays of the sun. Without this protective nutrient, many more elderly people could end up with the joint disease of the eyes macular degeneration. In other words only being able to use your peripheral vision. Both of these compounds are from the carotenoid family, which is responsible for pigmentation of color in our fruits and vegetables and some plants.

Zeaxanthin supplement is responsible for adding greater protection to the macular region of the eye and lutein is in charge of the retina. Both of these areas of the eye are very delicate, and if you allow oxidation, then you put yourself in danger of going blind.

Know Your Products Well

It is important to know the potency of the products you are using as some might deliver their promise to protect your eyes. You will soon know whether or not to purchase anything from them. You see one of the standard tricks of some manufacturers is to keep the customer in the dark and hope that they are too ignorant to understand, for instance, the difference between measurements such as mcg and mg. The latter being ten times the amount of the first.

So if you are looking for at least 6mg in your zeaxanthin supplement, then please make sure that either somewhere on the bottle or from information that you have seen that the makers are not trying to sell you a supplement that contains the only 6mcg. That amount would not give you any benefit or protection at all. All it would do is make your purse lighter.

The best kind of supplement to take is a multi-nutritional one because you are increasing your protection of age-related disease tenfold. There are many multivitamin dietary supplements on the market but be aware of the same pitfalls that were mentioned earlier if you were just getting a supplement with one ingredient in it. Make sure that when you purchase your next lutein and zeaxanthin supplements that they also have in their ingredients other compounds like bilberry extract for one.
