Vitamin C has become a favorite active ingredient in many skincare products. Aside from being included in multivitamins and supplements, It is also found to be very beneficial for the skin. For many years, it has not only exhibited that it is helpful for the health of the body, but it also showed skincare benefits. As a topical treatment, it is mostly found in the form of serum. Vitamin C serum helps your skin. When used on a daily basis, the skin will slowly become healthier and appear more radiant.

Vitamin C in its ascorbic form was first used at a 10% concentration in many skincare products. Within that concentration and low pH, it has reduced wrinkles, stimulate collagen production, and lighten pigmentation. However, 5% level was also found to provide the similar benefits. It is advised to use skincare products with 5-10% concentration.

Topical skincare products with Vitamin C serum are popularly known to stimulate the natural production of collagen in the skin. As collagen acts as a natural protein in the skin, it is needed to have smooth and soft complexion. The lack of collagen in the skin contributes to the formation of wrinkles. Thus, Vitamin C serum can help soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.

Sun-damaged skin cells have uneven color that will lead to the emergence of age spots. Serums with vitamins in several creams can help in reducing and correcting the different and splotchy skin tone. It can contribute in fading skin discoloration and lightening the overall skin complexion.

As a potent antioxidant, Vitamin C serum has the powerful ability to decrease and eliminate the effects of free radicals to the skin. Free radical forces consist of formation of age signs such as wrinkles, fine lines, etc. It will result in early aging. Free radical can come from several sources. Sources include smoking, unhealthy diet, poor hygiene, and overexposure to the sun’s rays.

This serum is not only formulated with ascorbic acid but with other varied forms of Vitamin C. These serums are usually combined with moisturizing agents such as glycerine and silicone to create a conditioning solution. This will help in hydrating skin cells and improve the skin’s moisture barrier, thereby improving the overall skin appearance and health.

When you use topical Vitamin C serums on the face, you should remember to use a sunscreen as well. This is because facial applications with Vitamin C serum do not have suitable sunscreen protection.

 

Other Uses of Vitamin C

In general, Vitamin C is essential for the treatment and prevention of diseases of malnutrition most notable being that of scurvy. It promotes for use against other diseases and viruses such as heart disease, AIDS, pneumonia, autism, and even Macular Degeneration when taken according to doctor prescriptions. To incur its benefits, it does take a little bit of work on our part, as our body just does not naturally produce enough of it. Vitamin C can be ingested naturally from food as well as taken in supplement form as a tab, capsule, or powder.
