Cherries have long been noted to provide relief to people suffering from the painful inflammation characteristic of gout. Cherry fruit extracts are reported to successfully produce the same benefits, and give faster results. Cherry fruits are among the earliest foods to be considered a nutritional powerhouse by both medical professionals and herbal practitioners. Indeed they are rich in anthocyanins that are anti-inflammatory and analgesic in nature. Cherry and cherry tree often refer to the plant species that belong to the genus Prunus, but not all of their fruits resemble each other. Cherry fruits are categorized as prunes, or stone fruits, as are plum, apricot, and peach. True cherry fruits resemble the fruits of Prunus avium, which are small and usually bright red in color, and cherry varieties that are widely cultivated for their fruits belong to this species.

Rebalances Purine Metabolism

It is a well established fact that gout is metabolic disorder of organic compounds known as purines. These compounds may be endogenous or obtained from a diverse variety of foods, such as meats, beans, peas, and lentils. Internal organs of animals, such as liver and kidney, and animal products in general are very high in purines, the reason why high consumptions of these foods have been associated with gout almost always.

Purines play indispensable roles throughout the human body, from being components of nucleotides, such as DNA and RNA bases, to acting as neurotransmitters. However, they do crystallize in certain body parts in the form of uric acid, which precipitates in joints and toes. Cherry fruit extract creates a homeostatic effect on purines and their metabolites, notably uric acid.

Promotes Excretion of Uric Acid

The final part of the metabolism of purine is its conversion to uric acid, a helpful antioxidant at the right amounts but crystallizes and precipitates at high levels. Cherry fruit extract works on the principle of rebalancing purine metabolites by inducing the excretion of uric acid.

Counters Inflammatory Agents

Cherry fruit extract contains anthocyanins in high quantities. These organic compounds have been observed to interact with endogenous mediators of inflammation that sensitize body parts to pain and complicate many known medical conditions. By interfering with the releases of pain chemicals, cherry fruit extract removes the redness, swelling, and pain tied to gout.
